19th Street Improvements, City of Columbus
  • Anna Shmukler, PE - Project Principal
  • Troy Shepherd, EIT - Road Design
  • Lisa Herrera, EIT - Drainage Design

Transportation Systems Design, Inc.'s responsibilities for this project included: performing the design; engineering; and coordination with the Georgia DOT Urban Design Office, another consultant preparing an adjacent project, and all appropriate utility companies for this project. The project consisted of connecting existing streets into one continuous roadway. This included the design of portions of the roadway at new locations as well as the widening of existing streets. The vertical and horizontal alignments were designed to GDOT and AASHTO standards. The roadway was designed to fit between existing buildings with a minimum impact on the existing property owners. TSD took over this project from the city, which provided the survey data. We worked on a "Fast-Track" basis to complete the Right-of-Way and Final Construction Plans in order to keep the city from losing state funding for the project. We also coordinated with all appropriate utilities on our design, attended Field Plan Reviews and worked very closely with GDOT on the city's behalf to shepherd this project through the approval process.

Deliverables included CEAL and MicroStation electronic files as well as reproducibles of the design drawings.
